The Littlest Voice: The Story of Judith Barsi

Before Hey Arnold's stellar voice cast of actual 9 year olds voicing the 4th grade characters.
Before 12 year old Aaron Dimuske's heart-wrenching performance as Alphonse Elric in Fullmetal Alchemist. There was another child actor whose presence was undeniable, and whose voice lives in on in animation fans forever. Judith Barsi was an up and coming child actress whose rising net worth while something impressive, was close to nothing compared to the disturbingly sad life she shared with her parents. And today on the 25th July, where the young actress would have been able to start a family of her own; today we are mourning the horrible loss of what could have been an icon in the film/animation industry.

Judith Eva Barsi was born June 6th 1978 to Jozef and Maria (nee. Virovacz) Barsi; Jozef and Maria were both immigrants from Hungary that fled the country after being occupied by the Soviets in the late 1950s. The two met then married in Los Angeles, shortly after which Judith was born. Maria had made it her mission to groom Judith into a child actress, training her in perfect posture, poise, and voice. Her efforts seemingly paid off as a 5 year old Judith was spotted by talent agents at a local skating rink. Part of her success and appeal was her short stature and that her youth appearance allowed her to play child roles 3 years younger than what she actually was. Judith became an instant success, having been in over 70 commercials throughout the 80's; roles in some of the biggest movies of the era such as "Jaws 2: The Revenge" and "The Land Before Time" where she provided the voice of the youngest character Ducky. (known for the catchphrase "Yep Yep Yep") She also made appearances in popular sitcoms like "Growing Pains", "The Tracey Ullman Show", "St. Elsewhere" and many other memorable shows. Her rising success brought her family enough money to move to a better neighborhood, hopefully living happily every after... or so we would believe.

Judith's house life was a complete contrast of what her on stage life was; a dark prison where her father Jozef played warden to a key. Jozef was abusive, both physically and emotionally, threatening to kill his wife Maria and Judith multiple times. He had even threatened Judith who was on her way to another acting gig; saying that he would kill her if she tried to stay on set. Family and friends tried their best to try and cool things off in the Barsi home, but to no avail. Jozef was a madman, and on the evening of July 25th 1988, he finally carried out his threats and shot both Judith and Maria, before taking his own life two days later. She was only 10 years old. Her last well known film was "All Dogs Go to Heaven" another animated film by Don Bluth, director of "The Land Before Time." Bluth would later speak about Barsi as someone who understood direction very well for her age, he also expressed a desire to be a mainstay of voice actors at his studio.

I will not go into deep details of the lifestyle of the Barsi home; this is not the point of this post. But I use this as a cautionary tale to all parents. (young and old) Barsi's story could be compared to life of Michael Jackson, the story of being pushed to success by family and shown no sense of love and care by their fathers. Judith's story, however; is the darkest tale of a child actor I've ever heard and sadly to say, I wish I knew less than I did. But again this is one of the many tales of child abuse that we should hear to better ourselves for the future. Parents (especially those with kids in showbiz) need to have their child as their number one priority; their safety, their stability, their well being, must be the first thing you should think about. Parents (Fathers and Mothers) need to love their children and show them that deep immense love at all stages in life. Whatever problems you may face, be it at work, be it in the marriage or separation, or within your own self, don't let it go another day. Every step you take towards positive change can lead to a happier story than one that befell the Barsi family.

RIP Judith Eva Barsi

Insanity Workout Week 1 Cont. - Week 2 (Cardio Recovery, Pure, Plyometric Cardio Circuit, Cardio Power and Resistance)

Alot to go over since I've been busy these past few weeks, but yes I am still doing the Insanity workout, As of Thursday the 17th, this will be my 2nd week on the exercise routine. My 2nd fit test will be later on this evening, and after going through the first two weeks I can proudly say I feel confident about it. I'm slowly starting to understand what Shaun is saying when he says to tighten your core, and I am practicing that throughout the day, on and off the routine. Definitely feel the routine's effect on my legs and back, but my core is a much harder place to get just down right. I'm not going to go over every day since there's a lot to talk about but I will go over each individual part I had trouble with/learned/or did better than before.

Tightening your core
After hearing it, dozens of times (as well as the dig deeper slogan) I finally ask Google what that meant. Tightening your core means applying pressure to your mid section while you do the workouts. This engages the muscles in your abdomen. When I finally learned that for the cardio abs workout, I had no idea how hard it would be to concentrate on applying that pressure while doing all those complicated (for me at least) moves at fast speeds. I will try to practice this when doing the DVDs and while doing some of my other light exercises. I feel that this will be a good way to shrink the size of my stomach considerably.

Missing Days
Yep I admit it! There has been days that I've been skipping out on my insanity workouts. Mostly due to not having enough time to do them. So how did I make them up? I did the one I missed the next morning, then continue to follow the routine. I don't know if it's a good idea to do this, since that's literally 2 workouts in one day. But they're well spaced out between each other, and it hasn't really screwed me up. Yesterday, I had to do 3 Insanity workouts, the one I missed the day before, and the two scheduled for that day.

Pure Cardio
Still kicking my ass, but not as bad this time. Though it's the one workout routine that makes me pause the video more than 20 times just to get into it. Starting this week is when I have to add the Cardio Abs workout in addition to the Pure Cardio. The first time, my body couldn't handle it since I was also learning how to engage my Core

Other
Still haven't started the diet, but I'm trying to eat much less. Cutting down my meals to one plate. And purchasing low-calorie snacks for work. But there is still much I can learn. I might try the Results and Recovery Formula or something like it but all in all its going good. Can't wait to do the fit test!

UPDATE: on well... Everything

So yay! I'm posting stuff on this blog again after 6 months of silence. So why the absence this time?

Well for starters: most of 2013 and a little bit of 2014 has been rocky period for me. I moved out of my house, the summer I started this blog. Worked on Chapter 5 & 6 of Re:Jyssica before deciding to put it on hold indefinitely. Now working on a brand new reboot for my previous series Kuro that's looking very promising. Finished the requirements for my major this December, and is now working my ass off at 3 part-time jobs. Not to mention having to deal with a lot of personal issues that have risen up due to my situation. Good news is, I'm putting the finishing touches on my new website, that I built myself. I'm trying to see if I can get it online soon in time for the Kuro series debut this summer. Also thinking about updating the look of this blog to match the way the site will look.

As you may already know, I started Insanity not to long ago, and will be doing my fit test as of this post. It's hard but things are looking good there.

I recently attended Anime Boston this year going all 3 days. I really wanted to focus on the Artist's Alley, wanting to not only figure out how they make it to the Artist's Alley, but how they produce/ distribute their content. Just by doing that has pushed  my desire to create even further. Besides that, AB was a really great experience, running into fellow old friends and acquaintances and meeting new people. I also got to ask Mike McFarland (Voice of DBZ's Master Roshi) a question at one of his panel. I hope next years AB is just as fun.

So as summer approaches, I got a few plans laid up. More time with friends and family, working on the reboot and on a top secret project that my team will reveal soon. I may be going to Nigerian Youth Organization's 19th annual cookout, hopefully this time as a vendor and not as a volunteer. A trip to New York is also in the works, there is a museum in Harlem that I want to visit and well it's New York. In September I hope to go to the Massachusetts Independent Comic Expo (MICE) since it's been ages, and it's one of the cons that propelled me into working on my comic.

I'm not gonna promise you guys a post every week, since I have been ignoring this blog for quite awhile, but besides the Insanity posts. I may post on here every now and then. Until then, stay blessed.

Insanity Workout Week 1 (Fit Test and Cardio Workout) **The F*** was I thinking**

"This is will not be easy"

No matter what my thought was on the illustrious Insanity workout regiment, one thing always remained in the back of my mind. The difficulty of this program that leaves all; even the healthy looking participants excreting sweat like water sprinkler. For me, going into this after eating fast food and farina for two days straight equals a very rough start.

I began the fit test, directly after finishing shooting around with my ball. (After months of inactivity that is) Popped in the DVD into my PC and just like that, I'm greeted by trainer Shaun T. (sic) who gets me right into the first exercise: The Fit Test.

Day 1

Anybody that's done Insanity before knows what I'm talking about, but if you don't; It's a basic test where you perform as many reps of certain exercises as possible. Of course, someone of my size was taking it a little bit much easier than the guys in the video; pausing just to go get water or a towel to wipe the sweat off my body. But even as I take my breaks as the video plays, Shaun's encouraging words "Keep Moving!" "Dig Deeper" kept me motivated for the next few reps I could muster. In the end, I was left with a Fit Test score that while very discouraging, didn't kill my excitement for tomorrow's workout. Boy could I have waited.

Day 2

After coming back from my newest job, aching from the Fit Test, I jumped right into the Cardio Workout, where my legs got more punishment from the barrage of exercises planned for today's session. The workout was intense, but I do believe it rectified any pains I had from yesterday. With most of the drills, I was either not able to do correctly, or do enough reps.  I could not for the life of me get more than 2 reps of the Level 1 Push-Ups, whenever I did one I had to rest. But if there was one drill I enjoyed (despite having to take breaks due to the earlier drills) were some of the punching, attack movements. They seemed easy enough, but required focus and stressed keeping the form. (Not sacrificing speed for form) I will try to practice that more in the future.

All and All , I'm finally glad I started this program sooner rather than later! I'm currently looking at the program's diet plan so that I figure out what meals I can plan to cook from it while I continue the exercise. Taking a break Saturday, but will be back Sunday. Maybe I'll do dancing or something

Dear Aniplex...

I first just want to thank you for serving in us American Otaku, and slowly bringing anime back to its prominence overseas. You are on the top of the list of distributors who shows real interest in your fans, like many you want these fans to go from casual watchers; catching the latest release online to casual buyers of your and other companies titles.

I'm very much stoked that you guys and Funimation are putting your faith in the new Toonami line-up, airing titles like Sword Art Online, and coming next spring; Blue Exorcist. Not to mention you've followed after Viz and have released english subtitled versions of your titles on Hulu and Crunchyroll. (This is how I was able to watch Magi and Madoka Magica this past summer) However one of the big titles I knew you guys had under your sleeves, was the re-release of Gurren Lagann, which some assumed was lost when Bandai Entertainment folded.

There's alot to like about you Aniplex, really I mean it; but there's a good reason why all the titles I've bought have come from Funimation... the pricing. The prices for some of your DVD sets are just ridiculous, we're talking 70 dollars and up for a new release. What? are the cases covered in small strands of gold or something? I could get the all the Season DVDs of Breaking Bad for much less. So until you lower the prices or until I find a job, I guess the only way for me to watch anything you guys distribute in the west is online or on Toonami.

Sincerely,
Most broke Otaku

My Thoughts on: Kendrick Lamar's verse on "Control"

Let me put this out before it becomes an irrelevant matter, but first "Oh my God, did you hear what Kendrick Lamar said on Control yet? You haven't? well here it is! Listen so we can all complain about it!"

Heard it yet?

Yeah Big Sean got murked on his own song.

Wait what am I talking about again?

Oh yeah Kendrick's Verse... What was that again?

"I'm usually homeboys with the same n----s i'm rhymin with/ But this is hip-hop and them n----s should know what time it is/ And that goes for Jermaine Cole, Big K.R.I.T., Wale/ Pusha T, Meek Mill, A$AP Rocky, Drake/ Big Sean, Jay Electron', Tyler, Mac Miller/ I got love for you all but I'm tryna murder you n----s/ Tryna make sure your core fans never heard of you n----s/ They don't wanna hear not one more noun or verb from you n---as."

Now I may not make this apparent on this blog, but right now K-dot has been one of my favorite rappers since 2012. He's one of the few reasons why I started to have more faith in Hip-Hop nowadays. (sad but true) He's one of the few rappers that doesn't talk about the money in his pocket or how much his watch cost, he focuses on his struggle, the struggles of others, self improvement, movement, things a lot of rappers today can't speak on cause they don't wanna rock the Status Quo. Though now he's managed to carve out a bit of mainstream appeal, he still keep true to his origins.

K-dots verse on "Control" may not be the best verse he's ever wrote, but since the single dropped it has become the only thing people talk about. Why so? because we are all wondering the same thing: "Why did he say that?" When I mean we I don't mean rappers or artists (The good ones have excepted the challenge), I mean "we" the fans, the consumers.

That's real Hip Hop! Its not just here to make Twerk music; its not just here to swoo females with breaks of singing inbetween, and its not here to throw catchphrases and memes: it's here to make a statement. Kendrick is using his verse to challenge his competition to come stronger than what they have coming out with. Most of us look at it as an approaching war against K-dot, I look at it as a friendly spar of wits and styles between heavy-hitters in the game. If someone wants to diss Kendrick let him, if someone wants to outdo Kendrick go right a head, cause really all the verse is saying is "Do Better or I will Do better!" And quite frankly the true cause death of any thing in this world is Stagnation.

Here's what most of the rap game thinks

The Top 4 best Reboots/Sequels/Alternate of any series of 2013

**Originally Titled: Top 5 Reboots of any series that is someone informed me that most of what I put on the list were not reboots. Re did the list with an actual reboot but didn't finish writing out due to school. So here is the original list but with a new title (I'm so creative! yay me!).**

Well I left this Blog with no posts for the longest time ever, and now all of a sudden I'm back with a brand new post. This time I'm counting down some of my best Top 5 reboots of any series. Now most of you guys already know what a Reboot right? so I don't need to define it right? Ok good! So just remember, this list is based off of Reboots that I enjoyed, rather they were better than the original series or they were just as good, so sorry if your favorite reboot doesn't make it or if the reboot you hated is here, so lets get started.

SPOILER ALERT: Just a warning, this will have some spoilers so if you haven't seen any of these series and don't want it to be ruined don't read

4. The Looney Tunes Show

I haven't watched that many episodes of it, but even I was a bit surprised that I would have enjoyed it as much as I did. The show greatly differs from its original counterpart cartoons, setting each Looney Tunes character in pseudo-real life settings. The writing for each episode is superb (even for current Cartoon Network standards) with a few hit or miss with jokes; but when they hit they'll have you chuckling. I mean besides the original DBZ, only few shows have ever based an entire episode around a day at the DMV and made it as hilarious as this show. Again I haven't watched many episodes but if the chance comes to watch an episode I'll be eager to watch.

3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (The 2003 4Kids Version)

So... I bet all of you are wondering why "this series" is here. Some of you are asking.

"What about the 1987 series?"... I said this was about Reboots right?
"What about the movies?" ... True those existed, but I barely remembered watching them.
"What about the new 2012 TV series?"... Do I look 12 years old to you?

Truth is, among all things Retro and Radical in 80s; I never really cared much for TMNT. So going into the 2003 series, I thought this would just try to recapture its former glory. But again somehow I found it very enjoyable, The character designs were appealing, the fight scenes were epic, (very few times dark) the comedy; while it was very 4Kids like was enjoyable for the most part. A few couple of episodes that I remembered fondly followed Leonardo as he took on the Shredder alone. Of course, he's out gunned; he gets beaten up and his swords broken, and leaves the city to train himself. Definitely not the praise most of you wanna hear about this series but hey, it wasn't that bad.

2. The Amazing Spider-Man

Coming into this movie I had very little expectations for it, I mean it felt like a step down from the Sam Raimi films. You had Spidey fighting some of the most popular villains of the series like Doctor Octopus, and Green Goblin. But I will admit, Spider-Man 3 classifies as a "Jumping the Shark" moment in cinema. I'll save my complaints about how Venom was so easily defeated later, and focus on this continuity.

With "The Amazing Spider-Man" you had a new Peter Parker, a new love interest, a new setting where Peter gets his geek on, a villain that few of us barely remember. And somehow it all worked out, the plot was interesting with parallel plot-lines that all started to come together in the end. I liked how it explained Peter's back story and how he came to live with Uncle Ben and Aunt May, talked about his parents. (which in any continuity is rare for me) But above all, the acting came off as more realistic than in the previous films; Peter's guilt of Uncle Ben murder is more noticeable on Peter and Aunt May than it was previously. Neither elders leave this world with any corny inspirational speech (i.e. "With great power comes great responsibility") It knew how to write every line, every dramatic scene, every fight sequence, from the comics and put it into its own words. All I can say is, can't wait for the sequel.

1. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

I didn't know much about FMA going into Brotherhood, I've watched some episodes of the original series around the time I graduated High School. And though back then I was a causal fan of the show, Brotherhood is what turned me into a FMA super-freak. From episode 1 to 64, every fight sequence, every sad moment, every funny scene kept me entertained for hours on end. I will admit, the beginning was rushed. And for being close to the manga, I'm surprised it left out the train incident with Bald which introduced both Maes Hughes and Roy Mustang into the story. But once it got to a point where the first anime could not follow the manga, the show got progressively better with time. For me the point where FMA:B got better was episode 19 "Death of the Undying" where Roy and Al have to deal with Lust the Homonculi, a simple confrontation that leads to one of the most brutal defeats I've ever seen in FMA. Even the first episode of the series was very interesting despite being a filler episode, but it was a decent prelude to what the series would focus on. Characters who appeared at the end of the first series (like Hoenheim) finally get their back stories told, and new characters join the already large cast with their back stories. But what it does well, is what the both the manga and the original anime have been known to do: show the relationship between Ed and Al, and from beginning to end it was given the utmost care that it deserves. I urge a lot of you to watch this show if you haven't already.

Honorable Mentions:
Dragonball Z Kai: Watched very few episodes, greatly impressed by how the returning voice cast has improved in their acting, though Piccollo's voice is not as distinct.

Did I leave a reboot you know and love out? Did I mention one you didn't like? (that's not the 4Kids TMNT) Please share you're thoughts in the comment section bellow.

**Will be going back to blogging soon**
